Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the community for information.
An important political figure commented the attack made him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
